Giant ice toads are just big toads who have adapted extremely well to icey climates. So good that they need to stay at freezing temperatures to survive. You will only find them in climates that will be icey cold for more than half of the year.

When the temperatures go up the giant ice toads will dig themselves into the mud at the bottom of a river. The mud and bottom of the river will be frozen where the toad has dug themselve in.

Any living creature needs to be cautious when giant ice toads are nearby, because the toads are always hungry.
